Abstract
Marriage as a social system is not without challenges. The phenomenon of domestic rifts that lead to divorce is increasingly prevalent today. Marriage, which is considered a "sacred" stage, especially in religious and cultural views, is at an extreme fading point. Divorce is one of the causes of the collapse of the sacredness of marriage. It can be said that divorce is a nightmare that eats away at the dreams of families who always direct their family life to a happy and prosperous atmosphere for good. Faced with this phenomenon of divorce, each culture and religion has its own views. It is interesting that in the tradition of the Catholic Church, the term divorce is not known. This happens because the Church always maintains the sacredness or sanctity of one marriage that cannot be broken except for death that separates. On that basis, the Catholic Church places marriage as a sacrament. The Second Vatican Council affirmed that in the sacred marriage bond, husband and wife signify and present the mystery of the unity and fertile love between Christ and the Church, and participate in living the mystery of the unity and love that God gives them as husband and wife. (cf. Matt. Ef. 5:32). This is of course inseparable from the belief that the nature of the marriage of the Catholic Church is monogamous and inseparable. With this commitment, the Church deeply respects and upholds marriage. In this regard, the Canon Law Book of the Catholic Church Kan. 1141 affirmed that marriage in the Catholic Church is ratum and consummatum. That is, the marriage cannot be broken by any human power and for any reason, other than by death. Although the law of the Catholic Church applies as such, it must be admitted that divorce cases still plague Catholic families. Whether it is done by a couple who is well acquainted with the nature and essence of a single and inseparable Catholic marriage or a couple who does not understand the nature and nature of marriage in the Catholic Church. Based on the nature of the marriage of the one undivorced Catholic Church, the Catholic Church does not in essence accept divorce on the basis of any reason except death separation. This means that in the Catholic Church divorce is not known. But what happens if the separation of marriage in a Christian family occurs as a result of adultery. We know that this act of adultery is a bad act done by every couple because they have violated their faithful promise to live faithfully and forever with their spouse and have violated the purity and sacredness of a marriage that they have pledged before God. Adultery is one aspect of family life and is often a source of problems. Adultery committed by a couple, both husband and wife, is a form of deviation from the action to family members, the Church, the Law and God that is carried out without the knowledge of their respective spouses. This adultery is carried out because it is influenced by various elements of family life, namely internal elements and external elements in the family, such as internal elements in the family including: thin religious values, poor commitment, boredom, reduced love for the partner and feeling that the partner does not meet expectations. While external elements include: often spending time outside with a partner of the opposite sex, the existence of temptation of women or other men, differences in life principles, economic problems, violence, hereditary problems, disharmonious relationships, sexual problems, the presence of an ex, long-distance relationships and revenge. With elements like this, the directness of family life built by this husband couple can be a boomerang for both couples who are maintaining the integrity of their married life. This adultery is usually marked by a change in attitude. The most obvious and frequent change in attitude in adultery cases is the tendency to keep something secret, act defensively (be defensive and lie). Based on this, as a writer, I would like to delve deeper into the attitude of the Catholic Church in dealing with the issue of "separation" in marriage. Therefore, this study uses Canon 1152 as the author's reference basis in understanding and handling marriage issues in the Catholic Church, especially in terms of adultery. In addition, this research is motivated by the author's concern because there are still so many Catholics who do not understand well the issue of separation due to adultery in the concept of marriage in the Catholic Church which is one indivisible. In addition, Catholics often see the Catholic Church Court as a kind of "institution" that can decide on divorce or approve divorce, even though this view is clearly contrary to the nature of marriage of the Catholic Church
