Abstract
This thesis is entitled "SOCIAL CONSTRUCTION OF LIURAI POWER AND ITS IMPLICATIONS IN THE LOCAL POLITICAL CONSTELLATION OF THE WEHALI VILLAGE HEAD ELECTION FOR THE 2023-2029 PERIOD IN MALAKA DISTRICT. This research examines the social construction of Liurai power in the local political constellation in Malacca Regency. Using Peter Berger's social construction theory, this research seeks to understand the dialectical process between society and Liurai in shaping the social reality of Liurai power in the local political realm, based on an externalization perspective, objectivation, and internalization. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews and documentation. The research results show that Liurai's power in Malacca Regency is the result of social construction formed through processes of externalization, objectivation and internalization. Where the externalization process occurs because the community creates the role and power of the Liurai as traditional leaders who regulate social and political life in the Wehali village area which is influenced by heterogeneous educational and societal factors so that the influence of the Liurai itself begins to decline. The Objectivation Process occurs because the power of the Liurai is objectivated through rituals. -customary rituals and there are still institutions or institutions that support it, such as the existence of traditional halls, and the process of internalization where there are people who accept and believe in the power of liurai in politics in positive terms and there are those who see it as a negative thing, and more about adapting to the times modern era.
