Abstract
The planning and design of Class II A Correctional Institution (Lapas) in Kupang City aims to create a correctional facility that meets the needs of residents, officers, and the community. This project is designed to address the problem of overcrowding, improve comfort, security, and support rehabilitation functions for inmates. A modern architectural approach is applied as a conceptual basis for creating a functional, efficient, and aesthetic design. Modern architecture offers solutions based on rationality, simplicity of form, and space efficiency. This concept is realized through well-organized spatial planning, the use of strong and environmentally friendly materials, and the integration of technology to support supervision and operations. In the design process, an analysis of space requirements, circulation, natural lighting, and ventilation was carried out. In addition, a modern architectural approach is used to minimize the impression of monotony and stimulate a positive atmosphere that supports rehabilitation. The result of this design is a prison complex consisting of residential blocks, coaching facilities, sports areas, administrative offices, and public service areas. The emphasis on the relationship between spaces aims to ensure operational efficiency, security, and comfort for residents. This design also considers aspects of sustainability through the use of natural lighting and ventilation, as well as the use of local materials. It is expected that this planning and design can be an innovative solution to correctional problems in Kupang City, as well as a model for the development of other correctional facilities in Indonesia.
