Abstract

"The recidivism phenomenon remains a significant challenge in the criminal justice and correctional systems in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze the factors that contribute to the high recidivism rate, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of existing rehabilitation and social reintegration programs. Using a mixed method which Combining quantitative data analysis from criminal statistics reports with in-depth interviews with former prisoners and correctional officers, this research reveals that social stigma, economic hardship, and lack of post-incarceration support are the main factors that encourage former prisoners to reoffend that a comprehensive development program, involving the active role of the community, as well as providing employment opportunities for former convicts can significantly reduce recidivism rates. This study recommends a holistic approach in handling recidivism, which involves collaboration between correctional institutions, local governments, the private sector and community organizations. to create an environment that supports the reintegration of former prisoners into society."
