Abstract

This study examines a land dispute in Oebufu, Kupang, involving N.N. and C.T. dkk., focusing on the legal, social, and economic implications. The dispute arises from the unclear status of the land, which is a state asset acquired by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (BPPN) but claimed by both parties based on different legal grounds. N.N. claims ownership based on traditional land clearing practices, while C.T. dkk. claim ownership based on a verbal purchase agreement. The study analyzes the legal validity of both claims, the impact of conflicting court decisions, and the underlying factors contributing to the dispute. The findings highlight the importance of land transparency, access to information, and effective dispute resolution mechanisms in preventing and resolving land conflicts. The study concludes with recommendations for improving land management practices, strengthening legal frameworks, and promoting social harmony in land-related issues
