Abstract
As it was categorized in semi-arid season, Kupang city’s land is needed to be conserved. However, in rainy season the surface runoff strictly overflow to the lower areas without being infiltrated adequately, whereas its geological condition is predominantly structured by porous topsoil. This might be caused by inadequate concerned information and/or technological intervention. This paper focuses on how to infiltrate it naturally among a catchment area. Therefore,5000 liter of water was overflowed and infiltrated during 5 days consecutively at a particular area. This might represent the highest rainfall intensity. Subsequently, the decrease of the height water was measured periodically, i.e. each 5 minutes consecutively, using actual infiltration rate model. Further, the infiltration rate was calculated using regression linear model whilst the required minimum infiltration area was determined using Fuzzy Logic model. It was found that the infiltration rate and required catchment area was around 0.2-0.3 cm/s and 33.4 m2 respectively. When such minimum area was converted into drainage canal dimension, it was found that a 25/40 could reduce surface runoff significantly so that this proposed permeable drainage system model not only could reduce overflow at the retention areas but also increase ground water discharge and land conservation program effectively.
