Abstract
The thesis entitled “The Influence of Motivation, Training and Production Facilities on the Performance of Horticulture Farmer Groups in West Miomafo District, North Central Timor Regency” is written by Hironimus Mawo Dopo NIM 8112201025 and supervised by P. Dr. Philipus Tule, SVD and Drs.Ec. Gaudensius Djuang, MM. The farming community in the study area continues to rely heavily on traditional land cultivation methods, faces limited access to agricultural technology, and lacks adequate modern production facilities—factors that collectively contribute to low productivity and agricultural income. Between 2017 and 2021, horticultural crop yields in the region have shown fluctuating trends. The objectives of this study are: (1) to describe the levels of motivation, training, production facilities, and the performance of horticultural farmers in West Miomaffo Sub-District, North Central Timor Regency; (2) to examine the partial effects of motivation, training, and production facilities on farmer performance; and (3) to assess the simultaneous effects of these three variables on farmer performance. This research adopts a quantitative approach. The study population comprises 1,542 horticultural farmers, from which a sample of 94 respondents was selected using Slovin’s formula. Data collection techniques included interviews, questionnaires, and direct observation. Both descriptive and inferential statistical methods were employed for data analysis. Descriptive findings indicate that farmers generally hold favorable perceptions regarding motivation, training, production facilities, and their own performance. Inferential analysis reveals that each independent variable— Motivation (X1), Training (X2), and Production Facilities (X3)—has a statistically significant and positive linear relationship with the dependent variable, namely Farmer Performance (Y). The t-test results confirm that each variable individually exerts a significant and positive influence on performance. Additionally, the F-test results show that, collectively, the three independent variables also have a significant and positive impact on farmer performance. The coefficient of determination (R²) obtained from the model summary is 0.629, indicating that 62.9% of the variation in farmer performance can be explained by the three independent variables, while the remaining 37.1% is attributed to other factors not included in this study. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the local government of North Central Timor Regency enhance its role in supporting agricultural development through increased motivation, effective training programs, and improved access to production facilities. Strengthening these areas will help horticultural farmers in West Miomaffo Sub-District to improve productivity and income, thereby contributing to their overall welfare. Future research is encouraged to incorporate additional variables in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the determinants of farmer performance.
