Abstract

This research is written by Jeni Yestri Rambu Dupa (31121022) from the Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, under the supervision of Dr. M. E. Perseveranda, SE, M.Si, and Co-supervisor Enike T Yustin Dima, SE, ME, with the title "The Role of the Tourism Sector in Increasing Local Revenue in East Sumba Regency." The research problem formulation includes: 1) What is the contribution of the tourism sector to Local Revenue (PAD) in East Sumba Regency? 2) What is the role of the local government in enhancing Local Revenue from the tourism sector in East Sumba Regency? 3) What are the supporting and inhibiting factors of the tourism sector in increasing Local Revenue in East Sumba Regency? The objectives of this research are: 1) To determine the contribution of the tourism sector to Local Revenue in East Sumba Regency; 2) To understand the role of the local government in increasing Local Revenue from the tourism sector in East Sumba Regency; 3) To identify the supporting and inhibiting factors of the tourism sector in increasing Local Revenue in East Sumba Regency. The analysis technique used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collection methods including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the tourism sector significantly contributes to Local Revenue (PAD) in East Sumba Regency. The substantial growth of the tourism sector is reflected in the increasing number of tourists, which positively impacts regional income through hotel taxes, restaurant taxes, and tourism object levies. Additionally, tourism creates job opportunities and contributes to other sectors, thereby strengthening the regional economy. This research also identifies supporting factors, such as natural beauty and cultural richness, as well as obstacles in tourism development. The findings suggest that the development of the tourism sector should be a regional policy priority to enhance PAD and improve community welfare. The conclusion of this research is that to maximize the potential of the tourism sector in increasing Local Revenue (PAD) in East Sumba Regency, better efforts are needed in the management and development of tourist destinations. This includes improving infrastructure, effective promotion, and strengthening the role of local communities. Collaboration between the government, communities, and the private sector is crucial to create synergy in tourism development. By involving the community and identifying destinations with high potential, it is expected that more destinations can contribute to PAD, making the tourism sector a key pillar of the regional economy and enhancing community welfare.
