(2) What are the advantages and disadvantages of using TikTok in improving English reading skills according to students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University? The objectives of this research are the following: (1) To find out the perceptions of the students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University towards the use of TikTok as a learning media to improve reading skills? (2) To find out the advantages and disadvantages of using TikTok in improving English reading skills according to students of English Education Study Program of Widya Mandira Catholic University? This study used descriptive qualitative method, and the data were collected through interview involving 20 students from different semesters. Interviews were conducted to find out their experiences and opinions about learning to read English through TikTok. The results showed that 85% of students had a positive view of using TikTok as a learning tool. They felt that short videos on TikTok containing vocabulary, expressions, and short stories in English could help them understand reading skills, expand their vocabulary and make them more enthusiastic about independent learning.TikTok is considered to be in accordance with the learning style of current students who prefer visual and fast media. However, there are also some students who disagree with TikTok being used as a learning medium. They argue that TikTok contains more entertainment than lessons, so it often distracts them from their learning goals. In addition, they find it difficult to distinguish which content is really useful and which is not. They are also concerned that much of the content are created by non-experts, so the information may be inaccurate. Thus, TikTok can be a good learning media to help improve English reading skills, but it must be used wisely and with guidance so that learning objectives are still achieved.
