Abstract
The learning outcomes of students in biology subjects at SMA St Arnoldus Janssen Kupang are still low, this is because, during the learning process, not all students are actively involved or actively participate in learning, only a few of them participate from beginning to end. In addition, the lack of teacher creativity, such as in the use of learning media, also affects the effectiveness of learning. To improve student interaction and learning outcomes, it is necessary to apply a learning model that involves students more in learning, one of which is the Discovery Learning model with the help of teaching aids. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by teaching aids on the learning outcomes of grade XI students on the material of the Human Respiratory System at SMA Santo Arnoldus Jansen Kupang. This type of research is quantitative research with Quasi Experiment method. The research design used is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampling was done using Purposive sampling technique where the population in this study were all students of grade XI and the sample in this study consisted of 2 classes, namely class XI A as an experimental class using Discovery Learning model assisted by media teaching aids and class XI B as a control class using direct learning model. Data analysis techniques in this study are using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results of the study showed that the average learning outcomes of students in the experimental class obtained a pretest score of 57.5, increasing to 84.75 after being given a posttest and obtaining an average N-Gain value of 0.66 with a High category. While in the control class, the pretest score of 53 increased to 69.25 after being given a posttest and obtaining an average N-Gain value of 0.35 with a low category. The number of students who completed the experimental class was 85% and those who did not complete were 15%, while in the control class, the number of students who completed was 30% and those who did not complete were 70%. Based on the results of the anacova test, it shows that the probability value (sig) of 0.001 is smaller than the significance level used, namely 0.05. The conclusion of this study is that the Discovery Learning model assisted by teaching aids has an impact on the learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students on the human respiratory system at St. Arnoldus Jansen High School, Kupang, in the 2024/2025 academic year.
