Abstract

This research is titled, "The Role of the Regional General Election Commission in Increasing Public Political Participation in the 2024 Regent and Deputy Regent Elections in Malacca Regency". The problem in this study is the low political participation of the people of Malacca Regency in the Regent and Deputy Regent Elections? The purpose of this study is to find out and analyze the Role of the Malacca Regional General Election Commission in increasing public political participation in the 2024 election of Regent and Deputy Regent in Malacca Regency. To explain the main problem above, a theory about community political participation was built. The method used in this study is a Qualitative Descriptive method with data collection techniques, namely; interviews, observations, and documentation. The variable in this study is the Role of the Malacca Regency Regional General Election Commission in the 2024 Regional Elections. The results of the study show; 1). Organizing Voter Political Education, the implementation of voter political education carried out by the Malaccan KPUD has been carried out in a structured manner and guided by valid regulations, such as Law Number 1 of 2015 to Law Number 6 of 2020 and PKPU Number 9 of 2022. 2). Using Information Media For Voter Socialization, the Malacca Regency KPU actively utilizes social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as well as official websites as a means of disseminating information related to the election and regional election processes. 3). Encouraging People to Be Registered in the DPT, efforts to encourage people to be registered as voters have been carried out systematically and thoroughly. The Malacca Regency KPU implements a strategy that includes socialization and education through social media, local television, as well as cross-sector cooperation with local governments, community organizations, and educational institutions. 4). Ensuring Voters Use the Right to Vote, the Malacca Regency KPU has ensured that the public uses their voting rights systematically through intensive socialization strategies, involvement of community leaders, logistics readiness, and the provision of voter information services. Based on the results of the analysis, it is concluded that the KPUD has carried out various strategies such as socialization, political education, and the provision of election facilities, but public participation is still volatile and tends to decline. This is due to the low political awareness of the public, the weak level of trust in candidates and political parties, and the lack of understanding of the importance of voting rights in a democratic system. Therefore, the author suggests that the KPUD should increase the intensity and quality of dialogical socialization, expand voter education to vulnerable groups, and collaborate with various elements of society to foster collective awareness of the importance of political participation in determining the direction of regional development democratically.
