Abstract

Airports play a vital role in the modern transportation system as the main gateway for human movement between regions and countries. In West Manggarai Regency, this role is increasingly crucial as the tourism sector grows rapidly, especially with the emergence of Labuan Bajo as a premium tourist destination in Indonesia. Typical natural and cultural tourist attractions such as Komodo Island, Wae Rebo, and Lake Rana Mese have led to a significant increase in domestic and foreign tourist visits. This condition demands an improvement in transportation infrastructure, especially the development of the Komodo Airport International Departure and Arrival Terminal in Labuan Bajo. This paper discusses the urgency of developing the terminal with a focus on expanding space capacity, providing supporting facilities, and improving the quality of airport architecture that supports tourism activities. The research was conducted through qualitative methods with secondary data collection and field observation. The analysis includes the need for space, building mass, lighting, structure, and utility, to produce a functional and comfortable terminal design. The design concept covers various aspects such as site layout, circulation, green open space, structure, materials, and building aesthetics to support the growth of sustainable tourism in West Manggarai Regency.
