Abstract

Puni Traditional Market in Ruteng City is one of the centers of economic and social activities of the local community. However, the existing condition of this market shows various problems such as inefficient spatial planning, inadequate facilities, chaotic vehicle and pedestrian circulation, and poor sanitation and waste management. This study aims to formulate a redesign concept for Puni Market with a contemporary architectural approach to create a functional, aesthetic, and comfortable public space. The method used is a qualitative approach through literature studies, field observations, interviews, and precedent studies. The results of the analysis indicate the need for a comprehensive improvement of the zoning layout, utility systems, and strengthening of local identity through modern architectural elements that are adaptive to the surrounding environment. The redesign was carried out by considering contemporary architectural principles such as spatial flexibility, natural lighting, cross ventilation, and integration with vegetation and local elements. With this redesign, it is hoped that Puni Market can become a more humanistic social interaction space and support sustainable economic growth for the community.
