Abstract

This study aims to examine the function of the Sodana traditional village in organizing the social and cultural life of the people of Laboya Dete village, Lamboya sub-district, West Sumba Regency. The theory used in this study is the Theory of Governance defined as a process of organizing political, economic, and administrative authority in overcoming problems faced by society or the nation, by involving various sectors, such as the public sector, private sector, and civil society. Governance includes a system of interaction in which political, economic, and administrative processes are carried out democratically, accountably, and participatively, by involving all actors and stakeholders. This study uses a qualitative method with structured interviews. The results of the study show that in socio-cultural life, economic life, and environmental preservation, Sodana Traditional Village has an important role in maintaining and inheriting traditional values ​​through various activities such as traditional ceremonies (Wulla Poddu, Pajura, and Pasola), religious rituals, traditional dances, and mutual cooperation practices. The Sodana Traditional Village community also develops various craft products such as ikat weaving and woven mats that have cultural value as well as being a source of income. This study also provides several recommendations, including increasing the understanding of the younger generation towards traditional values ​​through cultural education; developing a culture-based creative economy through digital training and promotion; implementing technology in environmental conservation efforts; and increasing collaboration with the government, to strengthen the preservation of customs and sustainable development.
