Abstract

Tais Mutin is a traditional dance originating from Weoe Village, Wewiku Subdistrict, Malaka Regency. In-depth studies of Tais Mutin have been limited, prompting the researcher to conduct this stusdy. The main research problems are: (1) What is the presentation form of the traditional dance Tais Mutin? (2) What aesthetic elements are contained in the traditional dance Tais Mutin? The objectives of the study are: (1) To describe the presentation form of the traditional dance Tais Mutin. (2) To analyze the aesthetic elements contained in the traditional dance Tais Mutin. This research employs a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that: (1) The presentation form of Tais Mutin is performed by five dancers, consisting of four female dancers and one male dancer. The floor patterns include: first, two straight rows, and second, the female dancers maintain the same formation while the male dancer circles around them before returning to his original position. (2) The costumes worn by the female dancers consist of Tais Feto Tilumutik (women’s sarong), sasuit (hairpin), and waistband, while the male dancer wears tais mane neolalek (men’s sarong) and Uluhetin (headcloth). Both male and female dancers use Tais Mutin (white shawl) as a property. (3) The dance movements involve Loú Ain (bentknee position) while slowly turning the body to the right and left, accompanied by a flicking motion of the Tais Mutin. Traditionally, Tais Mutin was accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as kleni batardadur, raraun, and kfui, along with elele telik singing. However, over time, the accompaniment has shifted to audio produced by a keyboard. The aesthetic value of Tais Mutin lies in its movement, expression, costume, and properties. Movement aesthetics can be seen in head, hand, foot, and body movements. Expression aesthetics are reflected in the dancers’ smiles and eye gaze directed toward their elbows. Costume aesthetics are evident in the colorful long-stripe motifs of the male and female sarongs. The property Tais Mutin (white cloth) holds aesthetic value in its bright and vivid color.
