Abstract

The color gradation technique is a transition process from one color to another or from dark to light, creating a smooth and attractive visual effect. One of the problems that occurred at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta is in the learning of fine arts related to drawing techniques. The lack of understanding of students in applying drawing techniques, especially color gradation techniques in drawing still life objects realistically and is caused by the lack of variety of media used in fine arts learning. The main formulation in this study is 1) How the process of applying color gradation techniques using colored pencils can improve still life drawing skills in students interested in drawing at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang. 2) What is the impact of using color gradation techniques on students' interests and abilities in drawing still life at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang. The purpose of this study is 1) To determine the extent to which the application of color gradation techniques using colored pencils can improve still life drawing skills in students interested in drawing at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang. 2) To identify the impact of color gradation techniques on students' interest and ability in drawing still life at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a field action research method. There are 3 ways to obtain data, namely, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that 1) The learning process of applying color gradation techniques is carried out in three stages, namely the initial stage, the core stage and the final stage which are carried out for 9 meetings. Where each meeting explains the material on how to make color gradation techniques, to the application of color gradation techniques in drawing still life properly and correctly. 2) In this learning, it shows that, learning the application of color gradation techniques has increased interest in drawing still life and progress because the use of color gradation techniques with colored pencil media has succeeded in providing positive results for students during the learning process at SMPK St. Maria Assumpta Kupang. Improvements and progress in learning color gradation techniques can be seen from the results of the pre-test and post-test which have increased significantly.
