Abstract

The belis tradition is a form of respect from the groom's family to the bride's family, who have raised and educated their child until he is ready to start a family. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods, through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with traditional leaders, the bridal couple, and the local community. The results show that the belis not only has economic value but is also rich in social, cultural, and spiritual significance. The main values embodied in this tradition include respect, responsibility, family ties, and a symbol of the legitimacy of marriage according to Manggarai custom. This tradition also serves as a means of maintaining harmonious relationships within the extended family and strengthening local cultural identity. This study concludes that paca or belis plays a vital role in the social structure of Manggarai society, and its preservation is essential to ensure that the noble values of this tradition are not lost amidst the tide of modernization.
