Abstract
This study aims to examine the level of community participation in decision-making processes, implementation, and the impacts and benefits of development in Nunmafo Village. The research employs a qualitative approach guided by indicators based on Cohen and Uphof’s theories, including community participation in decision-making, implementation of village deliberations, evaluation and oversight of development outcomes, and community perceptions of the benefits gained. The findings indicate that community participation in village deliberations in Nunmafo Village has been quite satisfactory, with inclusive involvement from various community elements such as traditional leaders, women, youth, and representatives from other groups. However, physical attendance is influenced by individuals’ busy schedules and available time. The deliberation process is conducted transparently and participatively, with mechanisms prioritizing urgent community needs, thereby fostering a sense of fairness and increasing public trust in local government. Decision-making is carried out democratically, emphasizing community aspirations, supported by sub-village deliberation forums that serve as platforms for aggregating community input. The implementation of development projects based on deliberation results has shown positive impacts, including improved access to clean water, infrastructure development in education and health facilities, and local economic enhancement through better infrastructure and accessibility. These long-term benefits contribute to improvements in community quality of life and sustainable village development aligned with residents’ actual needs. Overall, this study recommends that local government continue to enhance active community participation through official forums and effective communication channels, as well as encouraging broader participation across development sectors. It also suggests the need for further research on the long-term effectiveness of participatory development to improve village management and ensure more effective and sustainable development practices.
