Abstract

Pig farming is one of the businesses that supports the community's economy, especially in Soa district. In the management of pig farms, waste is produced in the form of feces. The waste generated can be minimized by introducing technologies such as biogas. Biogas production from pig manure is a promising renewable energy source that reduces environmental pollution and provides sustainable energy. The biogas production process depends on the microbial activity contained in the waste. The purpose of this study is to determine the character and types of biogasproducing bacteria in pig feces. The methods used are qualitative descriptive and direct observation. The stages in this study are: 1. Field observation and sampling, 2. Isolation of bacteria from pig feces, 3. Characterization of biogas-producing bacteria by H2S gas testing, Ammonia Test, Nitrate Test, 4. Ability to test the ability of methane gas-producing bacteria, 5. Identification of bacteria to the genus level using Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacterioogy. Data analysis uses a qualitative descriptive method, where all data from the research results that have been collected are descriptive supported by tables and images. The results of the study showed that from the three isolated samples, 36 bacterial isolates were obtained. Then the H2S test was carried out and 9 positive isolates were obtained, namely BS1 1, BS1 3, BS1 5, BS2 1, BS2 7, BS3 2, BS3 3, BS3 5 and BS3 12, followed by the nitrate test, one positive isolate was obtained, namely isolate BS2 7 and the Ammonia test, the results obtained in the nitrate test were one positive isolate, namely isolate BS2 7 and the ammonia test contained two positive isolates, namely isolate BS2 7 and BS3 3, then the ability test in methane gas production was carried out and the BS2 7 isolate was able to produce methane gas which was indicated by the presence of sparks and inflated balloons. The results of identification using the Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology book, the BS27 isolate has similarities to the genus Methanobrevibacter.
