Abstract

Brenda Rachel Dafa, Thesis 2025, Study of the Efficiency of Production Factor Allocation in Laying Hen Farms in East Kupang District, Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Widya Mandira Catholic University, Kupang, supervised by Dr. Marius Masri S.E., M.Si. and Mr. Brother Salomon Leki, SVD, S.E., M.Ec.Dev. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of production factor allocation in laying hen farms in East Kupang District, Kupang Regency. The main issue addressed is the inefficiency of production input use, which can impact farm profitability. This study uses the Cobb-Douglas Unit Output Price (UOP) profit function approach to simultaneously evaluate the levels of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and economic efficiency. The data used are primary data from laying hen farmers obtained through direct surveys, as well as secondary data from relevant agencies. The research results indicate that most farmers have not achieved optimal economic efficiency, due to inappropriate input allocation, such as high feed and labor costs. Production factors that significantly influence maximum profit levels are the number of productive chickens (layers), feed costs, vitamins, labor, and the value of physical investment. Furthermore, the scale of laying hen farming in this region is experiencing increasing returns to scale, indicating that increasing business scale can increase profits proportionally. These findings provide practical recommendations for farmers to optimize the use of production inputs and serve as a basis for local governments in designing policies to support the development of competitive and sustainable laying hen farming businesses.
