Abstract

This research aims to determine the meaning of Ritual Communication in the Tobu Neme Vate Tradition of the Lamalera Village Community, Lembata Regency. This study employs interview, observation, and documentary analysis methods to analyze that Tobu Neme Vate serves as a crucial platform for deliberation on issues related to Leva Nuang, as a means of reconciliation and restoration of social relations, and as a forum for establishing norms and rules governing maritime activities, using symbolic interactionism theory. The research findings indicate that the Tobu Neme Vate ritual serves as an important forum for evaluating the previous Leva season, planning for the upcoming season, and resolving inter-individual conflicts, while also functioning as a crucial means of reconciliation and peace. Thus, Tobu Neme Vate plays a vital role in shaping collective identity, strengthening social relationships, and preserving the culture of the Lamalera community, functioning as a symbol of purification and hope.
