Abstract

This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of social exchange among students in the environment of the Catholic University of Widya Mandira (Unwira), particularly among Communication Science students in the 10th semester. Using a qualitative approach and a case study method, this research examines primary and secondary data obtained through interviews and field observations. The results indicate that mutual giving and receiving among students create a supportive ecosystem, where students actively provide assistance and support based on each other's needs. Students also consider the costs and benefits of social interactions, realizing that although interactions require time and energy, the academic and social benefits gained are much greater. The concept of reciprocity emerges as an important norm in social interactions, where students feel obliged to reciprocate the assistance received. This research provides an understanding that positive social interactions among students can enhance motivation and engagement within the academic environment, as well as create mutually beneficial relationships. The contributions of this study are expected to offer insights for the development of social strategies on campus and to improve the quality of relationships among students.
