Abstract

This study is entitled "The Effect of Emotional Intelligence on Self-Adjustment of Grade VII Students of UPTD SMP Negeri 10 Kupang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The purpose of this study is to determine whether emotional intelligence influences the self-adjustment of grade VII students of UPTD SMP Negeri 10 Kupang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The variables in this study are the independent variable (X) emotional intelligence and the dependent variable (Y) self-adjustment. The study population includes all grade VII students of UPTD SMP Negeri 10 Kupang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year totaling 332 people. The sample of this study is 25% of the population of grade VIII students of UPTD SMP Negeri 10 Kupang in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. The data collection tools used are emotional intelligence questionnaires and self-adjustment questionnaires. The data analysis technique uses simple linear regression analysis and is processed using the help of the SSPS application for windows version 26. The results of the research data analysis show t_(count) of 8.088 is greater than t_table of 1.989, and the significance value of 0.000 is smaller than 0.05, in addition, the coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.441 indicates that self-adjustment is influenced by emotional intelligence. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of emotional intelligence on student self-adjustment. Based on the research results, the researcher suggests that a) School principals are expected to pay more attention to the development of students' emotional intelligence by supporting the implementation of guidance and counseling services in schools, such as providing special time in the school schedule for emotional development and social skills activities, so that students can more easily adjust to the school environment. b) Guidance and counseling teachers are advised to periodically provide counseling services, both individual and group, which are focused on strengthening students' abilities to adapt to the environment and dynamics that occur in the school environment. c) Students are advised to actively participate in school activities, such as extracurricular activities, in addition, students need to get used to communicating openly and honestly by conveying learning difficulties and uncomfortable feelings to guidance and counseling teachers so that they can be handled by holding individual or group counseling. d) Further researchers are advised to examine other factors that also influence self-adjustment, such as family support, self-confidence, or the social environment, in order to broaden the scope of research on the dynamics of student self-adjustment in schools more comprehensively and in-depth.
