Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) Are the eight grade student’s of SMPN2 kupang able to comprehend the literal reading text. (2) What is the ability level of the eight grade students of SMPN2 Kupang in comprehending the literal reading text in the school year 2019/2020. The main objectives of this study are: (1) To find out whether the eight grade students of SMPN2 Kupang are able to comprehend the reading text. (2) To know the student’s Ability level of the eight grade students of SMPN2 Kupang in comprehending the reading text.The subject of the study was 30 students, the Reading test was in the form of multiple choice. There were 20 test items. The result of the data analysis shows that (1) The eight grade students of class VIII A of SMPN2 kupang did not mastered the Literal Reading Comprehension text. (2) The mastery level of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kupang was “Average” (64,17%). Based on the result the writer would like to offer suggestions: (1) To the English teacher at SMP Negeri 2 Kupang that the teachers should help the students to always provide a narrative test to improve students’ ability to master reading comprehension.(2) For the students they can try to do more exercises in English reading texts. (3) The writer also suggests them to learn more about grammar and vocabulary that can help them to improve their Reading Comprehension.
