(1) To know whether the translation made by the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri Derokmasin is good or bad. (2) To find out the difficulties faced by the students when doing translation from Indonesian text into English. To answer those questions above, the writer applied qualitative method. The subject of this study was the ninth grade students of SMPN Derokmasin in the chool year 2019/2020. The total number of the ninth grade students was 30 distributed in one class. But in this study, the writer only chose 20 students in this class. In collecting the data, the writer used translation test. The test consists of ten sentences of narrative text written in Indonesian language. The result of the study shows that the translation of Indonesian text into English of the ninth grade students of SMPN Derokmasin in the school year 2019/2020 is very BAD. In fact only 55 (2.75%) sentences are correct or Good while 145 (7.25%) are wrong or Bad. The areas of difficulties faced by the ninth grade students of SMPN Derokmasin in translating Indonesian text into English are lack of grammatical structure and vocabulary. The grammatical problems faced by the students occur in tenses, linking verb, auxiliary verb and omitting some words. Based on this result some suggestions can be given by the writer as follows: 1. The teacher of English subject should give more emphasis in teaching the English vocabulary so as the students are expected to memorize those English words which are related to the study. 2. In teaching English, the teacher should give more exercises to the students in translating a text at least one topic every English meeting from Indonesian text into English. 3. For the students, they are expected to learn more about translation, vocabulary and grammar.
