Abstract
It aims to answer the following questions: (1) Are the students able to use present perfect tense correctly? (2) What is the level of the students’ ability in using present perfect tense? The objectives of this study are (1) To find out whether or not the students are able to use present perfect tense.(2) To identify the ability level of the eleventh grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 in using present perfect tense. To answer these questions the writer used descriptive qualitative method. A descrptive method is one in which information is collected without changing the invironment. It is used to obtain information concerning the current status of the phenomena or condition in a situation. By using this method the writer can find out or know whether the eleventh grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 are able to use present perfect. The subjects of this study were the eleventh grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang. The total number of the eleventh grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang was 112 students that consisted of 42 nursing major students, 33 nautical major students and 37 tourism major students. The writer chose the eleventh grade students of nursing major which consists of 42 students and were randomly taken 20 students as the subject of this study. In collecting the data the writer used “Test” as the instrument. The test was multiple choice. The multiple choice test consisted of 20 items. The result of this study showed that (a) The eleventh grade students of SMK Kencana Sakti Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 were able to use present pefect tense. (b) Their ability level is “Fairly Good” with a total score of 70% or 7 as the grade. Based on the result of the study, the writer suggest the following (1) English teacher of the researched school should give the students more explanations and excercises about present perfect tense.
