Abstract

Contextual Approach is a learning strategy that emphasizes the process of full involvement of students to be able to find material that is studied and connected with real –world situation so as to encourage students to be able to apply it in their daily lives and by involving saven main components in effective learning, namely: Constructivism, Questioning, Inguiry, Community Learning, Modelling, Reflection and Authentic Assessment. The main problem in this study is how the results of the application of the Contextual Approach to the subject of Geometri Optics to the Subject of Geometry Optics on Students in class XI MIA 1 Sint Catholic High School Carolus Penfui Kupang in even semester 2017/2018? And in detail the research question are: 1) How is the teacher’s ability to manage learning by applying a contextual approach? 2) How is the completeness of the indicator of students learning outcomes by applying a contextual approach? 3) How is the completeness of the learning outcomes of students in learning activities by applying a contextual approach? and 4) How do students respond to learning activities by applying a contextual approach? The main objective in this study was to describe and apply contextual approach to the subject of the Geometry Optics class XI MIA 1 Sint Catholic High School Carolus Penfui Kupang in even semester 2017/2018. The objectives of this study are: 1) Describe the ability of teacher to manage learning activities by applying a contextual approach. 2) Describe the completeness of learning outcome indicators by applying a contextual approach. 3) Describe the completeness of student learning outcome by applying a contextual approach, and 4) Describe students respond to learning by applying contextual approach. This study is a descriptive research and the research subjects are the teacher (researcher) and a total of 26 students of class XI MIA 1 of the Sint Carolus Penfui Kupang High School in the academic year 2017/2018. And the sampling technique. The instrument used in this study is the observation sheet of learning management by applying the contextual approach to the learning material of geometri optics, learning outcomes (cognitive, affective, and psychomotor) and students respond sheets. The data analysis technique is quantitative descriptive analysis including the calculation of the average score, percentage, and proportion. Based on the results of the descriptive statistical analysis, implied that in general the contextual approach was optimally successful for the subject of geometri optich for a total of 26 students of class class XI MIA 1 of the Sint Carolus Penfui Kupang High School in detail: 1) The ability of teacher to manage learning by applying a contextual approach which includes: planning, implementing and learning evaluation are in good categories. 2) The indicators of learning outcomes which include: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor are all complete. 3) Student learning outcomes which include: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor are all complete. 4) The response of students ti the learning activities carried out by the teacher covering five aspects, namely: preliminary activities, core activities, closing activities, time management and class atmosphere are in a very good category.
