Abstract

Study of The Natural Adsorbent Ca2+and Mg2+Impuritis Filter from Seawater in Salt Production Process has been carried out, with the aim to find out the types of natural adsorbents and their effectiveness in filtering impuritis of Ca2+and Mg2+ions from sea water in the salt production process. This research was conducted by the literature study method, which is collecting, analyzing, analyzing and discussing the results of previous studies on the removal of Ca2+and Mg2+ions in seawater using natural adsorbents. The results of the study obtained information that natural adsorbents used for filtering Ca2+and Mg2+ions from sea water are zeolites, activated charcoal and chitosan. Zeolite is a type of adsorbent that is relatively more effective because it is easily obtained, easily activated physically and chemically activated using HCl, easily activated chemical activator, calcined at temperatures around 300 oC -500 oC, can be regenerated physically and chemically. The adsorption contact time is about 30 minutes, and has a tendency that is the longer the contact time, the more the adsorption power increases. Another natural adsorbent is activated charcoal, which can be used with optimum conditions, namely: calcined at temperatures around 400 oC -900 oC, activated with NaOH and can be regenerated. The contact time is about 1 hour, and has a tendency that the adsorption power is higher if the contact time is longer. Chitosan adsorbent is also a natural adsorbent which is quite effective for filtering Ca2+and Mg2+ions in salt purification, but the process of making chitosan processing into adsorbent, goes through several modification processes to increase its adsorption power.
