The growth of rice plants in general can be influenced by abiotic and biotic factors. Abiotic factors include pH, temperature, humidity and light intensity. While biotic factors include the diversity of soil organisms, one of which is soil bacteria that lives in the soil and in the root zone. Population and diversity of soil bacteria in plant roots have a very important role, namely as a biofertilizer and resistance to disease. Noelbaki Village is one of the areas in NTT with large enough rice producers where the people always use inorganic fertilizer and pesticides to increase agricultural products, one of the habits of society before rice processing is burning straw. According to the community the losses gained from the use of inorganic fertilizer and pesticides that is during the rainy season of rice growth is not good. This study aimed at determining the types of soil bacteria around the roots of rice plants in Noelbaki Village Kupang Regency. Sampling of roots and soil were taken by using a diagonal system, and the number of plots were 5. The sampling was taken by the distance between one plot to another ± 50- 100 m, then testing was done based on macroscopic, microscopic and biochemical observations. The results of isolation of soil bacteria were 26 isolates. Of the 26 isolates obtained, only 11 isolates were identified. The isolates that had been obtained were identified based on bacterial characteristics both macroscopically, microscopically. While biochemical tests included gram staining test, motility test and catalase test. From several tests, 4 genera of bacteria were obtained, i.e. Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Marinococcus, and Azotobacter.
