Abstract

Species growth is one of the main analytical characteristics of a plant community. The plant community is a collection of plant species that grow together in a particular location and interrelated one another. The diversity assessment and regeneration status of tree species is essential for sustainable utilization, management, and preservation. The purpose of this research is to determine the diversity and regeneration status of tree species in two fragments (as Fragment A and Fragment B) of Camplong Natural Park, Kupang. The method used is the quadrant with the number of 30 plots in Fragment A and 30 plots in Fragment B with the size of each plot of 20 m x 10 m (200 m2 or 0.02 ha) that is placed stratified along the axis line forming a bisect. The Data collected was a species of woody plant and the number of individual categorized into the regeneration class of the seedlings with a height of < 0.6 m, the saplings with a height of 0.6 – 1.5 m, the small trees with a dbh of < 30 cm, and the large trees with a dbh of > 30 cm. The results showed that the composition of woody plant species in Fragment A consists of 28 species of plants, which belong to 28 genera and 19 families. The composition of woody plant species in Fragment B consists of 33 species of plants, which belong to 33 genera and 20 families. The regeneration diversity in the Fragment A for the seedlings = 2.134 (medium), saplings = 2.368 (medium), small trees = 2.428 (medium), and large trees = 2.539 (medium). The diversity of regeneration in the Fragment B for the seedlings = 3.313 (very high), saplings = 3.398 (very high), small trees = 3.153 (very high) and large trees = 3.354 (very high). In pairwise test-t results for the total diversity between Fragment A and B indicated that there was a significant difference. The conclusion of the research results showed that the diversity of woody plant regeneration in the Camplong Nature Park was different according to the level of forest fragmentations and the impact of different disturbances. The results of this study implicated the important conservation planning of the Camplong Nature Park.
