Abstract

Microalgae is the most developed type of algae for research and technology purposes. This alga has a fast growth rate, easily cultivated, does not require extensive land because it can be cultivated by using ponds or bioreactors and has chemical content and composition such as carbohydrates, proteins, and high fat. Fats from microalgae can be used as sources of biofuels. Algae that have high carbohydrates and fats content are also suitable for the raw materials of biodiesel. Through systemic exploration and in-depth scientific studies can be found new types of microalgae that have the potential for high macromolecular composition. The purpose of research is to find out the percentage of macromolecular compounds of carbohydrates, proteins , and fats in green algae (Spirogyra sp.) The research uses the Spirogyra sp. algae samples were taken from the Sagu Water Pond as a three-replay sample. Samples were taken to microbiology laboratory UPT Laboratory MIPA UNWIRA for testing the content of macromolecular compounds with Luff Schoorl, Kjehdal, and extractions. Results showed that the carbohydrate content of green algae Spirogyra sp. to 5 grams of dried algae has an average value of 15.08%. The fat content of the Spirogyra sp. freshwater is 75 grams with dried algae having an average value of 8.60%. The protein content of the Spirogyra sp. freshwater 2.5 grams for dried algae has an average value of 9.03%. The conclusion of the study is macromolecular compounds on the Spirogyra sp. The highsest is carbohydrates and the least is fat. The implications of this research are the algae Spirogyra sp. can be used as alternative raw materials for biodiesel.
