Abstract
Arthropods play an important role in an ecosystem and can be found in almost every type of habitat. Different habitat types support different arthropods diversity. The purpose of this research is to determine the level of diversity of arthropods in two types of habitat, covered forests and open forests in Muitis Mountain Nature Reserve, West Timor. The method of collecting plant data was a central point quarter method. Arthropod data collection methods were Insect Net or Hand Sorting, Pitfall Trap, and Yellow Pan Trap. The results show that in closed forests there were four types of heading top with the dominant type is Eucaiyptus urophylla S.T.,Blake, the undergrowth type is Gomapahandra mappioides Valenton, Xylosma amara Kds, Cordia dichotoma G.Fort, and the forest floor type is Andropogan arciculatus Retz. In the open forest, there were five types of trees with the predominant type of canopy was Eucalyptus urophylla S.T.Blake, the undergrowth type was Daphniphyllum glaucescens RMV, Gyrocarpus americanus Jacq, Gomapahandra mappioides Valenton, Xylosma amara Kds The diversity of arthropods in forests of 2.265 is medium and in the open forest of 2.622 is medium. The most influential environmental factors affect the diversity of arthropods in two different habitats are the light intensity, soil humidity, soil temperature, and C-organic soil content. The conclusion of this research was the diversity of arthropods in two habitats is significantly different. The results of this study can be used as additional data to strengthen policies and conservation planning of Mutis Mountain Nature Reserve.
