Abstract

The study is conducted to answer the following questions: 1) Are the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 able to speak English with correct Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation? 2) What is their ability level of speaking? The research approach is qualitative, the subject of this study is the students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020. The results of the study showed that: 1) The seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 are able to speak English with correct grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. 2) The ability level of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 is 3.62 regarded as above average level in speaking. Based on the analysis of the data, the writer concludes that 1) The use of pictures as media in teaching speaking is able to improve the speaking ability of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020. 2) The ability level of the seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 is 3.62 regarded as above average level in speaking. Based on the result of the study the writer would like to propose some suggestions as follows: 1) English teacher of researched school should pay attention to students’ need and characterictic by giving them pictures as media to make it easier for them to speak English, The English teacher should also be more serious in helping these students to develop their speaking skills in some aspects such as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, of the sentence that the student make. 2) The students should study more intensively grammar, vocabulary and practise good pronunciation in order to deliver a good speaking by using pictures.
