Abstract

This thesis is entitled “A STUDY ON THE WRITING ABILITY OF PROCEDURE TEXT OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 10 KUPANG IN THE SCHOOL YEAR 2019/2020”. It is conducted to answer the following questions: (1) Are the eighth-grade students of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 able to write procedure text? (2) What is the ability level of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 in writing procedure text? Based on the problems stated above, the objectives of the study are: (1) to know whether the eighth-grade students of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 are able to write procedure text or not, and (2) to find the level of ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 in writing procedure text. The subject of this study was 15 students of class F at SMPN 10 Kupang. In collecting the data, the writer used descriptive method. The purpose of this method is to describe students' ability to write the procedure text. The students were given the chance to make their own procedure text based on the topics prepared. In this study, the writer limits her analysis of procedure text writing. In this case, the writer focused on the writing elements such as grammar, vocabulary, and content. Based on the result of the analysis, it can be seen that (1) the eighth grade student of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 are able in writing procedure text. (2) The ability level of the eighth grade student of SMPN 10 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 in writing procedure text is 14,4 i.e very good. Based on the result of this study, the writer suggests that (1) the teacher should teach students how to make good texts in English, especially in writing procedure texts. And before that, the teacher should teach students how to make good sentences, and the teacher should give students the opportunity to practise writing. (2) The students should learn how to write a good procedure text focusing on grammar, vocabulary and content.
