Abstract
This type of research in this research is a descriptive type of research using a qualitative approach. Informants in this study amounted to 5 people. Sources of data obtained are primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques are in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. Data analysis techniques used in this study were data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing/verification.The results of this study indicate that: First, The people of Lamalera defend their lives by hunting and stabbing whales. The culture of catching whales has a close relationship with the values of the local community's social-religious life that has been passed down for generations. Second, is an activity that determines social interaction between citizens and the preservation of cooperation and sharing in the Lamalera community. There are some rituals performed before the leva season, namely Tobu Nama Fatta, Ie Gerek, Misa Arwah, Misa Leva, and Tena Fule. Tenna Laja is a sailboat that is used when whaling, which in the tenna laja, there is a division of labor from the lamafa section as a stabber to meng or the other people (matros) and also the distribution of whales that have been determined in customs and work roles. Third, Work distribution division adopted by the Lamalera community. The people of Lamalera in the division of labor do not know the hierarchical system, but they do recognize the democratic system. The division of work that has been arranged since time immemorial, namely, the division of tasks of Lika Telo or three stoves, Landlords and Nara Kajak, or the Levo community. The traditional roles are not displaced but still exist. However, the patterns of division of labor in traditional roles are not necessarily applied in the village's tasks, so that the egalitarian or democratic character is maintained.
