Abstract

The subjects in this study consisted of three students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Research subjects were also selected according to the results of discussions with the mathematics subject teacher. Data collection in the form of the results of problem solving tasks and the results of interviews based on indicators understanding mathematical concepts. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Checking the validity of the data uses time triangulation. The results of data exposure and analysis conclude that (1) students with high mathematical abilities are able to complete problem solving tasks and fulfill the three indicators of concept understanding, namely indicators of translation, interpretation, extrapolation. (2) students with moderate mathematical abilities only meet two indicators, namely translation and extrapolation. (3) students with low mathematical abilities only meet one indicator, namely translation.
