Abstract
Research on chemical composition and antibacterial activity of essential oils from the leaves of the betel-betel family (Piperaceae). The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical composition and antibacterial activity. The research method used is literature study. The results of the study obtained data that the active compounds contained in the betel-betel family plant (Piperaceae) studied were monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. The dominant compounds contained are terpenoids and phenols. The same compound that exists in all species is β-karyofilen. The antibacterial activity of essential oils from the leaves of the betel-betel family plant (Piperaceae) is influenced by the active compounds contained, namely eugenol, eugenol acetate, alifenol, terpineol, β-kariofilen, βchamigren, α-cadinen, α-humulent, β-humsenic, β-humsenic, kamfen, germacron, α-saline, α-pinene, limonene, linalol, kavikol, and α-tuyan.
