Abstract

.It was conducted in order to answer the following questions: (1) Are the tenth grade studentsof SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 able to write descriptive textby using pictures. (2) What is the ability level in writing descriptive textby using picture of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. The objectives of the study areasfollows: (1) To find out whetherthe tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang are able to write descriptive writing by using pictures. (2) To find out the level of descriptive writing ability by using picturesof the tenth grade SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018.This study is limited in three aspectsof writing as proposed by John Anderson in term of grammar, vocabulay, and mechanics. The writer presents the data analysisgathered from the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018. It consists of 13 students who took the test.The result of theanalysis showsthat; (1) The tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 are able to write descriptive textby using pictures. (2) The ability level in writing descriptive text by using picture of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2017/2018 is ”Above Average” with the total score of whole class is10. 8.Based on the result above the writersuggeststhe following things: (1) The students of SMA Negeri 5 Kupang need to enrich themselves by mastering English vocabulary more in order to write a descriptive text. (2) Grammatical rule is another important thing they have to master. The students need to know the grammatical rules in writing descriptive text.
