Abstract

This research is research is related to the analysis of the mathematical problem solving ability of junior high school students. This study aims to determine the mathematical problem solving ablility of eighth grade junior hingh school students 0f SMPN 9 Kupang in the 2019/2020 academic year the subject of two variable linear equation systems. The subjects in this study were three eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Kupang. Determination of research subjects obtained through discussion with matemathical subject teachers so that three students can be obtained as research subjects. The three subjects were taken by one person from each level of high,medium, and low mathematical ability. Collection is done through problem solving tests and interviews based on the resukts of problem solving tests. The results showed that students mathematical abilities in solving mathematical problem of eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Kupang discussed the subject of two variable linear equations. Students with high mathematical abilities are able to solve problems according to the steps of problem solving so that students are said to be able to meet the problem solving indicators, students with moderate mathematical ability, ini solving the given problem, have not been able to solve problem solving based on rare steps of problem solving well. So students are said to have not beeb able to meet the problem dismissal indicators. Students with low mathematical ability in solving the given problem cannot solve problem solving well. So students are said to be unable to meet the problem solving indicator. Based on the results of this study. It isi expected that in learning mathematics students in solving linear equations two variables can be guided by the teacher ini particular following the steps of problem solving that is understanding the problem, making a plan of solving, completing and checking again.
