Abstract

Jesus associates intimately with sinners in a banquet at Levi’s house. He showsHis loving solidarity with them, who are rejected by the people of Israel at thattime. In the banquet, Jesus makes sinners feel accepted by God. He releasesthem from inferiority, embarrassed and guilty before God and neighbors. Theyare not punished anymore because God has forgiven them. Bythis, Jesus invitespeoples to have an universal solidarity, not exclusive solidarity, where men areaccepted without exception. He rejects the type of solidarity that is judgmentaland exclusive. When He receives sinners to a banquet, He actually shows thatGod hates sin indeed but he doesn’t hate the sinner. His love is bestowed to alluniversally.Kata-
