Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) Are the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang in the school year 2019/2020 able to use possessive adjective?. (2).What is the ability level of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang in school year 2019/2020 in using possessive adjectives? The main objectives of this research are:(1)To find out whether or not the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang can use the possessive adjective. (2) To find out the level of ability of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang in using a possessive adjective. The method of this research was the quantitative method where 35 test items were administered online via google form to the research students and were later analyzed its comprehension level of possessive adjectives based on students’ answers. The subject of this research was 20 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang. The result of the data analysis shows that (1) The seventh-grade students of class VII I SMP Negeri 5 Kupang understand the meaning of using possessive adjectives tested to them. (2) The ability level of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang was “good” (6. 05). There are 4 students (4%) who get the highest score of 8-10 (excellent). There are 13 students (65%) who get score 5-7 (good). There are 2 students (10%) who get score 3-4 (average). There is 1 student (5%) who gets 1-2 (poor). Based on the result the writer would like to offer suggestions: Based on the conclusions above, the writer would like to suggest the following things. (1) The writer was a prospective teacher in preparing herself to become a teacher in the future. The writer is motivated to study hard about grammar in using a possessive adjective. (2) The English teacher can improve their method of teaching English especially grammar, by using possessive adjectives, and then teachers can make new strategies that make students improve their English especially grammar,by using possessive adjectives. (3) The students can be motivated and they can try to do more exercises in English grammar especially in using possessive adjectives.
