Abstract

Forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) is the main producer of Honey in Indonesia that has the greatest body size. Apis dorsata in NTT is widespread throughout the region including Kupang District,TWA Camplong. The research aims to determine the characteristics of nest trees, diameter of nest tree trunk, height of nest, branch position, to protect the bees and the environmental conditions of the hive and the distance of the tree from the spring. The method used is a roaming method by following the guide to find the point of existence of honeycomb trees. Based on the research results, found 10 Individual trees including 2 genera and 2 families used as the place of Apis dorsata Honeycomb, namely Ficussubglauca (Fam. Moraceae) Bombax ceiba (fam. Malvaceae) with 5 trees each. While the tree as a transit place is, Ficus subglauca, Canangium odoratum, and Schleichera oleosa. Camplong I (1 tree Nisum) = 44 nest, the Camplong II (4 nisum tree) = 61 nest, Oebola dalam (1 nisum tree) = 50 nest. High altitude 0-10 m = 30 nest (3 active and 27 former nests) and the branching height > 10-20 m = 88 (30 active and 58 former Nest). Smallest tree trunk diameter (66 cm) on the Bombax ceiba tree and largest diameter (488 cm) on the tree Ficus subglauca. The most dominant dorsata honey bees make a nest with branch position 131 º-150 º with an average of 77%. A. dorsata bees tend to make nests near the springs, number of nests in Oebola dalam village = 48 nest, distance from spring 8.1 m. Environmental parameters measured are the temperature (C°) 34.65, air humidity 43.97%, and wind speed 1.23 km/h.
