Abstract
Teaching learning activities are the important parts in educational process;and teachers are the main piles to shift the advancement and development of education. In running the learning process, a teacher is challenged with educational growth which emphasizes on the activeness of students. This study focuses on the implementation of project based learning in science lesson as one example of students’ active participation in the classroom. Research problems of this study are (1) How is The Implementation of Project Based Learning in Science at SMP Negeri 9 Kupang Timur 2017/2018 Academic Year? (2) What are the obstacles and the encouragement factors of The Implementation of Project Based Learning in science lesson at SMP Negeri 9 Kupang Timur 2017/2018 Academic Year? Based on the results of interview, documentation survey and observation, it is found out that the implementation of project based learning in science lesson is preceded by the fulfillment of project theme that has been decided through analysis results, core competency mapping, basic competencies, indicators of competence achievement, and by outlining the minimal learning completeness analysis. After that, teachers make discussion scheme and activities; pupils tend to follow the scheme. The science teachers have constructed the time schedule of project start with preparation, realization, monitoring and process of writing, publication and completion of product. The completion phase of the project has been fulfilled properly. With the result of that, science teachers are indicates to show their roles as instructor and facilitators in learning process which enables their pupils to increase the critical minds. On the evaluation phase, science teachers have given the opportunity to the pupils to inform their opinions and experiences of completion phase. The obstacles factors found are less of teaching aids and books as the source of knowledge in conducting the project. Fortunately, the encouragement factor in this study is the enthusiasm of pupils to go along with this project. It is recommended that teaching aids and main books will be increased quantitatively and qualitatively to improve the teaching learning process of science at SMP Negeri 9 Kupang Timur.
