Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the following questions:(1) Are the tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang able to comprehend the reading text? (2)What are the comprehension level sof tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang in comprehending the reading text? (3)What are the difficulties encountered by tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang in comprehending reading text? While the objectives of the studyare (1)Tofind out,are the tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang able to comprehend reading text. (2) To identify comprehension levels of students in comprehending reading text. (3)To findout the difficulties faced by the students incomprehending the reading text. This study was conducted by using five narrative text sand testmultiple choicetest of twenty-fiveitems.T he subjec tof this study was the tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang in the school year 2018/2019 exactlyin computerand network engineering class. The result of the study show sthat (1) The tenth grade students of SMKN 2 Kupang are not able tocomprehend the reading text,their abilitylevelis “Bad” on the average level of 22.56%. (2)The students ’comprehension level sin comprehending reading text are level I (Literal) and leve lII (Inferential).(3) The difficulties faced by the tenth grade students ofSMKN 2 Kupang in comprehending reading text are that the students vocabulary is weak, and their sentence structures are also bad, and motivations of studentsis very low to learn English Language. They just focus ont heir technical vocational subjects. By looking at the resul tob tained, the writer suggests to:The first, the English teacher should give morepracticeor test sfor the students about reading,so that the students canim provet heir abilityi ncomprehending readingtexts. Thes econd, the students are suggested to domore practice and exercises about reading text sinclassroom orat home, Sot hat their level abilityon reading comprehension canbebetter.
