Abstract

Loose parts are the learning media consisting of loose parts, such as natutal entities dan synthetic objects. The following are the problem statements: (1) How are the loose parts learning media applied in the teaching and learning activities at Oepunu Imanuel Kindergarten, Kupang Regency? (2) What are the supporting and impeding factors to apply the loose parts learning media at Oepunu Imanuel Kindergarten, Kupang Regency? (3) What are the efforts done to cope with the hindrances in applying loose parts learning media in the teaching and learning activities at Oepunu Imanuel Kindergarten, Kupang Regency? This study is conducted at Oepunu Imanuel Kindergarten, Kupang Regency. The informants in this research are 22 children Group B, age 5-6 years, one teacher of Group B, one Unit Head, and 4 parents representing the children’s parents. The data are collected using interview, observation and documentation study. The collected data are analyzed using data reduction and data presentation. The data validity is tested utilizing prolonged observation, frequent visit to the site,data triangulation,negative case analysis, making use of references, and member check. The results of analysis indicate that (1) Planning, implementation and evaluation of loose parts learning media are done by the teacher and the children in the teaching and learning activities. (2) The supporting factors are nature and environment providing loose parts learning media, the parents provide time for children to play using loose parts learning media,and training to develop teacher’s competence. Furthermore, the impeding factors are the teacher’s difficulty to integrate loose parts learning media into the 2013 Curriculum, there is no available store to keep the loose parts learning media, lack of appropriate teacher, and minimal supervision of the Kindergarten Unit Head. (3) The following are the efforts to cope with these hindrances: providing opportunities for teachers to join the relevant activities and cluster activities in the Sub-District level, adding the qualified teachers; the is no double job for Unit Head, and the parents provide place to store loose parts learning media. Based on these results,it is recommended to this Kindergarten Unit Head, parents and local Government to raise their care and attention, according to their own responsibilities to cope with the given obstacles at Oepunu Imanuel Kindergarten, Kupang Regency.
