Abstract

Camplong Nature Park is one of the protected areas that has important biodiversity potential and is surrounded by a number of villages whose livelihoods are directly or indirectly dependent on forest resources, which further impacts on the distruction of forest ecosystem stability. Detailed scientific information indicating how the local population's reliance on forests affecting tree biodiversity is still limited. This research was conducted to determine the level of community knowledge about plant species in Camplong Nature Park and community perceptions about forest management and forest ecosystem service status in Camplong Nature Park. Data collection was conducted in SeptemberDecember 2019 at Camplong Nature Park at the first turn of Kupang-SoE for plant data collection and community interviews in Camplong II Village to collect forest ecosystem service status data. The data is descriptively analyzed. The results showed that the majority of respondents were of Dawan ethnicity with a description of forest management:1) some respondents were involved and knew about forest management, 2) 76.67% stated that forests have many functions, 3) the majority of people do not understand about climate change but they know the changing seasons, 4) the majority of the community understands the forest provides environmental goods and services, 5) the majority of the community understands the damage of forests eliminating environmental goods and services. The conclusion that can be drawn from the results of this study is that people’s perceptions about forest management and ecosystem services can be known through how their lives and awareness of information about tree species and their ecological value is important because any forest management planning effective must cover the entire forest ecosystem that presents the value and use of the forest in a multi-functional manner.
