Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the results of the application of the contextual approach to the subject matter of optical instruments in class VIIIF Kupang 12th Middle School students in the academic year 2018/2019. In detail the objectives of this study are (1) to describe the teacher's ability to manage the learning process by applying the contextual approach to the subject matter of optical instruments in class VIII F Kupang SMP Negeri 12 2018/2019; (2) describe the completeness of indicators of learning outcomes by applying the contextual approach to the subject matter of optical instruments in class VIII F Kupang SMP Negeri 12 academic year 2018/2019; (3) describe the learning outcomes of students by applying a contextual approach to the subject matter of optical devices in class VIII F of Kupang Middle School 12 academic year 2018/2019; (4) describe the response of students to the learning process by applying the contextual approach to the subject matter of optical instruments in class VIII F Kupang SMP Negeri 12 academic year 2018/2019. This type of research is descriptive research and the subject of this study were teachers (researchers) and students of class VIII F Kupang State Middle School 12 2018/2019 which amounted to 31 people. The tools used are teaching materials for students, syllabus, lesson implementation plans, student worksheets, grids and ahsil learning tests. Research data collection techniques are observation, tests, and questionnaires. While the instruments used in this study are the main observation sheet of learning management by applying contextual approaches to the material of optical instruments, learning outcomes (products and authentic assessment) and student response sheets. The data analysis technique of this research is descriptive static analysis by calculating the average value, percentage, and proportion. Based on the results of descriptive static analysis the research data obtained that in general the application of the contextual approach is good for the material of optical instruments in class VIII F Kupang State Middle School 12, amounting to 31 people. In detail, the ability of the teacher to manage physics learning, the subject matter of optical instruments which includes learning planning, the implementation of learning and evaluation of learning is good. The learning outcome indicators prepared as many as 14 indicators of all products are completed. The learning outcomes of students in class are said to be complete on the aspects of the product, as well as the response of students so that the application of the contextual approach to the subject matter of optical devices is good.
