Abstract

This research is a case study qualitative research which aims to describe the difficulties of students in solving the story problems of the subject of integer counting operations. The research was conducted in even semester 2018/2019. The research subjects were three selected class VIIH students after being given a written test. Data collected in the form of the results data, interview results, and documentation. Data analysis includes data reduction,data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Checking the validity of the data using triangulation techniques/methods. After the data was presented and analyzed, it was concluded that : (1) students’ difficulties at the stage of understanding the contents of the story questions, namely students are still incomplete in writing what is known and asked, confused to pour the information in the questions into writing , (2) students’ difficulties at the stage of making a completion model, still cannot/cannot make a model of mathematics, not understand the intent of the problem so they do not understand it, lack practice, (3) students’ difficulties at the stage of calculating that students do not understand the contents of the question and the wrong model of completion, not careful in counting, confused students determine the final answer based on the operation made, (4) students’difficulties at the stage of making final conclusions calculation, namely students do not write the conclusions of the calculation by returning the answer to the context of the problem, mistaken from the initial stage and not sure of the answer.
