Abstract

The thesis entitled “The Effect of Managerial Competence, Principal’s Instructional Leadership, Teachers’ Achievement Motivation and Teaching Creativity on the Teachers’ Pedagogical Competence at Public Junior High School 4, Kupang City, Academic Year 2020/2021”, is written by Yacoba Bunga Kaho, Reg. No. 8112191047 MM, under the supervision of Dr. Dra Ruminah, MM and Anggraeny Paridy, SE., MSi. The pedagogical competence is one of the basic teachers’ capabilities to play their roles in educating students effectively and efficiently. This study aims to know 1) The description of managerial competence, principal’s instructional leadership, teachers’ achievement motivation, teaching creativity, and teachers’ pedagogical competence. 2) The significance of effect of managerial competence, principal r’s instructional leadership, teachers’ achievement motivation, and teaching creativity, partially on teachers’ pedagogical competence. 3) The significance of effect of managerial competence, principal’s instructional leadership, teachers’ achievement motivation, and teaching creativity, simultaneously on teachers’ pedagogical competence. This research is a descriptive quantitative study. The sample is this study is 68 teachers teaching in academic year 2020/2021. The data are collected using a questionnaire and then are analyzed using descriptive statistic and inferential statistic applying SmartPLS 3.0. The results of descriptive statistic analysis indicate that teachers’ perception on pedagogical competence is categorized as very good (84.76%), managerial competence is good (80.39%), principal’s instructional leadership is good enough (67.55%), achievement motivation is good enough (65.32%), and teachers’ teaching creativity is very good (86.32%). The results of inferential statistic show that 1) The managerial competence has a positive and significant effect (0.513, sig. 0.002 < 0.05) on teachers’ pedagogical competence. 2) The principal’s instructional leadership has a positive but insignificant effect (0.043, sig. 0.731 > 0.05 on teachers’ pedagogical competence. 3) The achievement motivation has a positive but insignificant effect (0.415, sig. 0.249 > 0.05) on teachers’ pedagogical competence. 4) The teaching creativity has a positive and significant effect (0.289, sig. 0.004 < 0.05) on teachers’ pedagogical competence. The result of determination coefficient indicates the managerial competence, principal’s instructional leadership, teachers’ achievement motivation, and teaching creativity contribute 86.7% on pedagogical comptence, while the rest of 13.3% is contributed by other variables excluded in this study. Based on these results, the following are some suggestions. 1) The Headmaster of Public Junior High School 4 Kupang City enhances the managerial competence in planning the school goals and objectives, and the instructional leadership in managing finance, learning facilities and resources. 2) The teachers endorse the achievement motivation, in giving feedback and creativity, focusing on innovation, punctuality in finishing their assignments, and to be the best teachers.
