Abstract

Buce J. P. Tari (Reg. No. 8112152011 MM) wrote this thesis entitled “The Influence of Academic Qualification, Training and Academic Supervision to Teachers’ Professional Competence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I, Kupang Regency, under the supervision of Cosmas Fernandez and Dhiu Margaretha. Teachers’ professional competence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I Kupang Regency was categorized as good enough. The research questions were as follow: 1)What is the description of academic qualification, training, academic supervision and teachers’ professional competence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I Kupang Regency 2) Do the academic qualification, training, and academic supervision partially influence significantly the teachers’ professional competence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I Kupang Regency? 3) Do the academic qualification, training, and academic supervision simultaneously influence significantly the teachers’ professional competence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I Kupang Regency? The population in this study was 42 teachers and its sample was 41 teachers at Public Vocational Secondary High School I, Kupang Regency (population sample). The data were collected using a questionnaire and documentation study. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive statistics analysis showed that teachers’ professional competence was categorized as good (84.04%), academic qualification as good (79.71%), academic supervision was good (84.17%), while training was very good (90.29%). The results of t-test indicated that partially academic qualification (t value 2.204, sig. 0.034 < 0.05), training (t value 2.126, sig. 0.040 < 0.05) and academic supervision (t value 2.154, sig. 0.038 < 0.05) had a positive and significant influence to teachers’ professional comptence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I, Kupang Regency. The results of F-test showed that simultaneously academic qualiication, training and academic supervision (9.332, sig. 0.000 < 0.05) had a positive and significant influence to teachers’ professional comptence at Public Vocational Secondary High School I, Kupang Regency. The results of determination coefficient (R2 ) indicated that 3 independent variables contributed 43.1% on the teachers’ professional competence, while the rest of 56.9% was contributed by other variables excluded in this research. Based on these results, it is suggested to school management to enhance the teachers’ competence by facilitating to join higher education and participate in the non-formal education such as training in their specific skills, to control the overall teaching and learning process, and to motivate the employees to produce the best results according to their capacities.
